Have you ever wondered how to become a great coach? Do you think it's a hard and elusive goal to obtain? Surprisingly, I can tell you from my experience speaking to hundreds of coaches, that the magic comes from the simple acts.
The process of helping someone else improve their effectiveness absolutely requires a positive relationship. We all need people who can help us rub off the hard edges and who honestly have our best interests in mind when they do it. There are times when these sharpening conversations can be challenging, but it definitely helps to know that these people care and that they have a genuine interest in helping us improve.
Here are 3 ways to take your coaching relationship to the next level:
Listen More - A conversation completely changes when you're able to slow down and stop thinking about your next response and listen with intent to your clients. You will be able to pick up more from their tone of voice, how they are saying it & the language they are using. These subtle cues will help you provide more rich and meaningful responses for your clients.
Ask the right questions - Learning the art of questions, might be the most vital tool that a coach has when in a session. Questions allow you possibilities to enter your mind and help people discover powerful insights about themselves. There are many forms of questions such as open-end questions, funneling questions, loaded questions and many more. The key is to understand what type of question for what moment.
The fortune of follow up - In today’s world, we know that we are bombarded by multiple things all the time and when coaches send proposals or even reach out to people. We often can get in our own way when it comes to sending follow up messages. We might have created reasons why we shouldn’t send them and forget that those individuals are busy and sending a follow up message is sometimes helpful.
